A rant on social media by teacher José Henrique Gomes has reignited the debate about the state of education and public services on the island of Brava. In a post on Facebook, the teacher shared images and reflections on the reality of a classroom, describing it as a portrait of the lack of government investment in the sector.

"This is the reality of a classroom in an upper-middle income country... This shows the level of investment in education in Brava," Gomes wrote, expressing outrage at the conditions in which students and teachers work on a daily basis.

The teacher also questioned the lack of response from local and national authorities:

"Where is the government, the Ministry of Education in Cape Verde? But also where are the MPs who were elected to defend the interests of Brava and the Bravenses?"

In the publication, Gomes pointed out other structural problems affecting the island, highlighting the lack of a police station, a court and a hospital in adequate conditions. "Brava continues to live off crumbs from successive governments," he said, closing with the question: "Until when?".

The professor's words resonated with residents and Bravenses on social media, many of them expressing support and recognizing the persistent sense of abandonment that afflicts the smallest inhabited island in the archipelago.

Meanwhile, there has been no public reaction from the Ministry of Education or the local authorities to the concerns raised.
